About

What is the Community Council

First, the formal part…

The Community Council exists to support the local community and provide a link between the people of Clackmannan, Kennet and Forestmill and the local authority and other statutory bodies.  It has particular responsibilities, which are set out in our constitution – you can see an excerpt on the right.

What our Constitution says:

The objects of the community council shall be:

a) To provide a link between the community and the elected members and officers of Clackmannanshire Council and all statutory bodies.

b) To ascertain, co-ordinate and reflect the views of the community which it represents, to liaise with other community groups within the area, and to fairly express the diversity of opinions and outlooks of the people;

c) To provide assistance, advice and help to all sections of the community as sought without favour, to promote community spirit and the well-being of the community, and to keep the community informed of matters of public concern.

d) To safeguard and improve the amenities of the community council area by providing advice and assistance on environmental issues, promoting recycling initiatives, maintaining and improving public amenities and buildings of historical or religious importance.

So how does this work in practice?  The Community Council meets monthly.
Meetings are attended by local members of Clackmannanshire Council and the police service; and, when relevant, by other external parties – for instance, local planning or environmental officers.  Members of the community are free to attend Community Council meetings, and/ or they can email the Community Council or contact us via this website to raise any issues.
An important part of this work is that the Community Council co-ordinates the community’s response to planning applications, and is also consulted on issues such as waste management.  We also campaign on local issues such as traffic and leisure facilities.
You can find more information about the roles and responsibilities of Community Councils on the Clackmannanshire Council website – click here: https://www.clacks.gov.uk/community/communitycouncilsintro/

What else do we do?

There’s much more to the Community Council than meetings and dealing with issues of concern.  We run groups and organise events through the year, which bring members of the community together on initiatives to improve the quality of life in Clackmannan and widen access to the natural environment and historic buildings.
